Multiple Attack Defense – A Good Ending to a Scary Situation

Being attacked by more than one person can be a scary life threatening episode. It can make you feel as helpless as when the bully picked on you in school, but now your life is in danger for real. Begging, pleading, and crying may not get you out of the grip of multiple drug addicts looking to score their next fix and wanting to, even enjoying, hurting someone in the process.

So what do we do when attacked by multiple attackers. Well a guest martial arts article writer, Master Keith Pascal M.A. has some ideas to defend yourself. I'm going to let his pictures and I have some ideas for defending yourself against multiple attackers I will add later.

Arm bar to throw into others attacking. Adjust to throw controlled attacker into other's leg.

2 guys grabbing one . Knee kick to closest grabber. Good guy's head is to close to the other attacker.

Same as previous mutliple attack picture, but the distance with the head has been corrected.

Deal with the closest guy. Chop to throat, keep between you.

As guy turns around, double hand push/strike into the other attacker.

Foot locked. Keep him as a buffer between good guy and other bad guys.

reverse head lock. Throw him into his friend to counter the punch.

Sometimes you have to deal with more than one attacker at the same time. Don't keep this up. Shift focus to one on very next move.

Again, simultaneous attack. Take out fast. Note from Master Kirkham: Master Pascal let his beginning students adlib to get these spontaneous multiple attack defense pictures. I do not believe Master Pascal or myself would suggest kicks above the waste under most circumstances.

Too focused on one attacker. Solve problem by rotating controlled attacker to be between good guy and second attacker. Or maybe a rear kick and move away.

Shove controlled into second attacker. Keep eyes on third attacker in the foreground. Good.

Lock and leg control (which came first?) when tried to kick. Still use same tactic -- throw into second attacker.

I'd like to thank Master Pascal and all of his students for their time and trouble and would like to motivate you to visit his website for his free martial arts ezine and his martial arts ebooks. Master Pascal is a full time author.

This is a section of my ebook Bringing The Martial Artist Out From Within – Drills to Enhance Your Natural Means of Self-Defense. This section is on multiple attack basics. I recently took some pictures and have added some to this martial arts article.

Multiple Attack Defense Basics by Kirkham

One of my female self-defense student's was walking down the sidewalk in Decatur IL. Two men were walking toward her on either side of the sidewalk. She would have to walk between them. A voice entered her head that had been drilled in scenario attack session after scenario attack session, "Never walk between two warriors." That voice was mine. My self-defense student crossed the street and avoided a potentially dangerous situation.

Why Should I Never Walk Between Two Warriors

Do you think it is easier to defend yourself against one attacker or two attackers? Is it easier to defend against one strike coming at you or two strikes coming at you? So if you walk between two potential attackers you could be attacked by two people at the same time and have two or more strikes coming at you at one time from two different angles.

Okay So Where Should I Walk

Well there's Kauai, a small island in Hawaii. If you're not able to move to Kauai then you should always keep one attacker between you and the others.

Look at the examples below. This is based on a scale of one to six. Ten having your eyes closed as you walk out into the middle of the highway. One would be moving to Kauai

In self-defense example one notice that the defender is directly between both attackers and the defender is equidistant between the two attackers. This means both attackers can execute attacking techniques which could both land at the exact same time. Forcing the defender to attempt to defend several angles of attack at the same time.
